The achievements of more than 4000 students will be celebrated next week when the University of Dundee hosts its Summer Graduation ceremonies at Caird Hall.
Graduands will be joined by family and friends to mark their academic accomplishments, while honorary degrees will be bestowed upon leading lights from fields including life sciences, engineering, and art and design.
“Graduation is an immensely proud moment in a person’s life and marks the culmination of a great deal of hard work and dedication,” said Professor Iain Gillespie, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University.
“It is always a joy to welcome our students and their families to celebrate these achievements and make memories that will last a lifetime.
“Our summer ceremonies create huge excitement throughout our campus and the city, and I have no doubt that those visiting Dundee will have a wonderful time here.”
Ceremonies begin on Tuesday, with students from the Schools of Health Sciences, Life Sciences, and Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, receiving their awards from 2.30pm. A further six ceremonies will follow, concluding on Friday afternoon when students from the Schools of Dentistry and Medicine are honoured.
Honorary graduates this year include Professor Sir Pete Downes OBE, former Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University. Professor Sir Pete stepped down at the end of 2018 after ten years in the role and having made a huge contribution to civic life, including helping to bring the V&A to Dundee and pushing forward the Tay Cities Region Deal.
The University is also set to award honorary degrees to Professor Dame Carrie MacEwen, Professor Kamlesh Khunti CBE, and Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter OBE for their outstanding leadership during the Covid pandemic. Scottish artist Andrew Crummy MBE, an alumnus of the University, and Dr Ollie Folayan MBE, a champion of equality and diversity in the engineering sector, will also be recognised.
